About the Club
The British Alumni Club was set up by British Council Russia and the British Embassy in 1998 as an exclusive networking forum for Russian professionals who had held a UK scholarship, undergraduate or post-graduate study programme or undertaken professional training in the UK.
The idea of an alumni was raised by the Duke of Kent at a reception for departing Chevening scholars in September 1997, and was immediately taken up by the British Embassy and the British Council. The official inauguration of the British Alumni Club was held in the British Embassy in June 1998. Since then the British Council and the Embassy have been committed to the BAC and to all its activities. For the last ten years the BAC has been a focal point for professional links between Russia and Britain.
The BAC gives members the opportunity to stay abreast of events in the UK and meet people whom they would not otherwise have met. New contacts made through networking events give BAC members further opportunities for developing their career and improving their access to key markets and major national and international personalities.
BAC members are dynamic, highly educated professionals working in many different fields: politics, government, commerce, journalism, public relations, science, medicine, professional services and the arts.
We offer a regular programme of events throughout the year, including lectures by high profile Russian and UK guest speakers, and social events.
Many events are open to everyone but British Alumni Club members are offered access to advance tickets and are often invited to private receptions and launches.
